Welcome to the 2018 – 2019 season of the Youth Football Development League, we cannot wait to get started in our very first season and hope you are also looking forward to the season ahead.

The Youth Football Development League is a brand new forward thinking league for all teams/clubs in the North East, with the focus throughout our league’s and all competitions within on development.

At the YFDL we are looking to offer a great experience for young children to enjoy this as well as moving the game into a new era with changing time’s in youth football.

We seek to create a participation pathway for players from under 7’s to under 18’s with development and retention of players, coaches and volunteers at the heart of the process. According to the FA’s Youth Review:

“Youth Leagues in England have provided organised football for young people for decades, enabling them to experience pulling on a shirt, playing in a team of friends against another team and the thrill of scoring an important goal near the end of a close match.”

We are striving to be creative with the structure and setup of our competitions for players participating across all ages groups. This will enable us to increase participation and maintain high retention levels whist developing players in an enjoyable environment. We are committed to embracing change, to continually develop our structures to suit to the demands of youth football and work with all members to shape the future of our leagues striving to be the best.

Promoting a safe, friendly environment which is supportive and player centred will allow every child to embark on a journey of enjoyment, learning and development allowing them to be creative and play with freedom.

As part of being an effective league we have three main areas of development we believe will be fundamental to the success of the league which are ‘The Player’ ’The Coach/Club’ and “The Environment”. We have development strategies in place for each area ensuring we maintain high standards and continually look to improve what we can further supported by best practice campaigns, new headline rules, the winter league, referee and volunteer support initiatives reinforcing our goals and objectives for the launch of the league.

We are all ready to go and would like to offer a warm welcome to all our new clubs.
